More MORELEY please!

Model: Athlete--National Bobsled team AMANDA MORELEY
http://amoreleybobsled.blogspot.com/

I recently had the opportunity to shoot Miss Amanda Moreley in Whistler during international training week. Can you imagine me, at 5' 31/2" walking around Whistler surrounded by all the notable bobsledders of the world. These people are dedicated.

First of all, IT was darned cold!!! I mean the rain turned to snow in front of our very eyes! What a sport for stripping down to show off those substantial bobsledder muscles.

Second, what a joy spending time with her. This woman is the epitome of positive thinking.
I'm quite certain she'll visualize her way onto the podium for GOLD!

Way to go Amanda! Sending tonnes of love and support on your epic Olympic journey!

Every year I choose to donate my time and skill to support various non-profit organizations. WOW! I think it's definitely a win-win. Alright...seriously I could never have taken these shots without an incredible makeup artist and a very enthusiastic Grinch. It humbles me and reminds me that teamwork is where it's at!

I use my reflector for a backdrop!!!

On this particular location the backdrop was fairly dark. I wanted to create a high key image, so I simply used my reflector. The point is... there is usually always a creative solution to get the look and feel you want.

one tiny light- CREATIVE CONTROL

Can you believe that all these pictures were taken within 10 minutes of each other? The one on the far left (the lightest one) was even taken last!
This is the creative control that a photographer can have by simply using various shutter speeds and one tiny light. FUN!

Technical note for the keeners: When using a flash, Shutter Speed determines the amount of ambient light the camera sensor sees (the brightness or darkness of the background), while Aperture determines how much the subject will be exposed to the flash--(the brightness or darnkess of the subject).

I've met photographers who limit themselves because they feel that they don't have all the professional studio lighting equipment. But really...all you need is one source of light. For example...the sun, a desk lamp...a street light, a cell phone...get my drift? Perhaps I'll do a little
experiment and post a blog about various light sources!

In this instance, I used a standard speed light --Nikon SB-800 on a light stand with a shoot through umbrella..Voila! an affordable and portable studio!

The stunning model is recording artist, Michelle Carter Leis. Check out her music!

taking full advantage of my location...

Can you believe this set up was a total coincidence? The model was in blue face and I happened to see this drawing on the floor scattered amongst the makeup artist's heap of intriguing belongings... It is moments like this that fire me up. I love surprise elements-- the organic shoot philosophy.
