determination

Sometimes, just when I need a little reminder, my wandering lens finds exactly what I need-- SOO many interpretations really...Determination, Will, Luck?
Did you know that ants evolved from wasps, which are related to bees? (Now this could turn into a really deep philosophical discussion).

I watched this relentless little guy drag this bee carcass for about 20 minutes...and he was still going when I, satisfied with my shot, decided to pack it in. I kind of wish I would have stayed to see where he brought it and how his colony received the delivery!

My pics on award winning-design!

Happy Friday! I want to send you off into the weekend with the music of UPTOWN HERO
I just found out that a fabulous, and talented graphic designer, Gina Vivona, in Burbank, California has been awarded recognition (again) for American Package Design Award by Graphic Design USA. I am so thrilled to have contributed to this project!
This was a blast to shoot. It was sort of a guerrilla shoot on a windy day in a back alley in Burbank. Not only was Gina there every step of the way to style these handsome gentlemen, but she also very kindly held my lights when sand bags weren't enough.
Gina--very skillfully--pieced all the images together with award winning pizazz! CONGRATS!

These guys are so fun and on the rise!

CREATIVE CONTROL

Last week I did a food and beverage shoot for the J Lounge in Davie Village (the best yam fries I have ever tasted). They called me in an hour before they needed the shoot to be done-- an opportunity arose and they had a limited window with their mixologist and executive chef.
Talk about ADRENALINE RUSH! 3.7% of my logic said..." WoAhh I'm not prepared...I don't even know what I'll be shooting...what will the surroundings be...??" The other 96.3 % said. "WHOO HOO...ADVENTURE..."
The truth is, I am completely confident in my technical abilities. One of my instructors at Brooks Institute of Photography said once "Discipline reigns freedom." I put the time into learning the skills (and my gear), and the rest is up to vision and creativity. And so...after a little negotiation about pay, I agreed to be there ASAP.
When I got to the shoot I quickly surveyed the surroundings to see what I was dealing with. There were so many possibilities--great colors and fabrics to work with.
I asked the owner and chef what they had in mind for concept. Can you believe they trusted me with complete CREATIVE CONTROL--a feeling that is both overwhelming and exciting.

Because I always like to provide my clients with the choice from a few different looks, (for example high key v.s low key), I did one set up that allowed me to get several effects in very little time.

If you're interested in learning how...I'm always available for tutorials!

a second can change everything

Hi there! Happy New Year everyone.
So I've been digging through my archives and reliving some of my adventures. (there may have been one or two)....tee hee : )
The thought of the day: A SECOND CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING!
This is applicable in all shooting scenarios.
In the studio, it is subtle--getting that perfect smile or intensity in the eyes. However; In nature or street shooting timing most often makes or breaks a shot...or as illustrated in the above photos, can change the image completely!
When I'm inspired by a scene...I get the initial shot...and then...I wait--for a few seconds anyway.
HAPPY SHOOTING!
